Always nice to see these on the road.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Unfortunately I was not driving my E9, so when I gave the guy a thumbs up he didn’t pay attention.

About a mile before this I passed a Superbird (or clone), but no pics of that, just a bunch of pics of my B pillar.

Looks clean too! I appreciate that the value on the lower model E9s is still low enough that it’s possible to see them on the road

Considering what they are and the race history of the E9 chassis, I agree. But they are certainly not as cheap as they once were, and rust can hide and bite your ass badly. Ask me how I know.

That looks exactly like a client’s car, a college kid drives it down here in SLO but he’s from the Bay Area. I can’t read the license well enough in the pics, but it looks like it could be right. If it’s the same car, it’s the fastest CS I’ve ever driven, the thing has twin Webers on a high compression 3.5 and flat hauls ass. It’s easily faster than my old E28 M5.

2EDE315 I think. (BTW, I never understand why people cover license plates in internet pics - it’s public info when you are on the road.)

I don’t normally post upskirt pics but here’s what’s under the hood of my lady:

Kinja'd!!!

She does ok.

That’s the car! It’s a nice one, pretty unmolested. It was sagging really bad in back last I saw it, the guy had plans to rebuild the entire suspension back home so it looks like it’s been taken care of.

Yes, yours will do just fine, thank you! There’s another black one that lives here that has an S38 under the hood, it doesn’t come out much.

Lots of bodywork needed on your car? I feel the same way about the Audi UrQuattro too. It's no Sport Quattro, but it still has a ton of history for something easily found in the sub $30k range

1.5 years worth. But we were also strengthening the chassis for more power and better handling in addition to doing rust remediation.

I think I know that guy. Were parked next to each other at Legends a couple of years ago. Like this pic?

Looks like it, it has the airdam, and I think it’s on naked throwing stars. The guy is a doctor.

Ouch. One day... with a big six.

$30's seem more than fair, but I would dread months of rust remediation. They are very few and far between and but generally list in the $15-25 range. All seem to run/drive, but seem to be missing something (trim/windows), or feel like they have something lurking under the surface.

Were the E9 chassis cars extremely limited or production (or age unkind)? Hardly see these beautiful cars on the road.

Shameless plug. I am still attempting to source a 1960s Lincoln Continental vert’ for my wedding this fall. Any idea or local outfits to rent from or any owners that might entertain such an idea for a fee (yourself included)? Finding lots of mustang convertibles but no Lincolns outside of LA. Shoot me an email - bdol.jalopnik at gmail if you are curious

If you were in NorCal I’d just let you use mine. I already drove it to LA this year and I feel like it doesn’t have many of those trips in it annually.

I might follow thelincolnman on instagram - that is the account of the worldwide expert on the Lincoln convertibles. He goes around the country fixing the tops and other parts on these cars, and has fixed several in southern California. You might get lucky with one of those people.

The E9 cars rusted from the factory. The bodies were left outside prior to production. Most of them have turned into iron oxide over the 40 years since they were made, but there were more than 30k of them so not super rare but not as common as most American cars back in the day.

I am in Nor Cal and the wedding is in the Sunol (East Bay) area. What I meant is I can only find rental Lincoln cars in LA with rims..sadly. If you’re interested I am happy to share my tentative plan.

My dream retirement job is just driving around in my Lincoln taking people to weddings and proms. :)

I shot you an email.
